Agglomerated flux use a binding agent to hold materials together, are baked, and broken up. Agglomerated fluxes are easier to customize for an application, and can provide various alloying elements needed for welding.

Submerged Arc Welding - AWS

Submerged arc welding is a high productivity method for welding thick sections (typically 10 mm and upwards) in the flat position. It is also used for the overlay welding of mild and low-alloy steels.

Submerged arc welding is used for heavy workpieces. Usually, one or two bottom weld beads are deposited first by some other welding process. The joint is then filled by submerged arc welding. In certain cases the bottom bead may also be submerged-arc welded. This is facilitated by using root backing.

The flux is supplied through a funnel located ahead of the filler wire which is fed continuously. The flux exercises a shielding function. During welding, part of it is converted into a readily removable slag. Superfluous flux is automatically recovered by the machine and reused. This process requires higher currents than in the case of manual arc welding. Due to the material thickness and the presence of residual flux and slag, cooling is relatively slow. The time during which the material is within the critical temperature range of 500-800‹C often tends to be long, with the consequent risk of carbide precipitation. In submerged-arc welding, the parent metal should always have a lower carbon content than in the case of metal-arc welding with covered electrodes, if resistance to corrosion is to be the same.

A high quality welding flux suitable for stainless materials must be used.

SJ101 is a kind of agglomerated flux with F-bassicity slag series, It is suitable for the submerged-arc welding of low carbon and low alloy steel. It can be also used for the quick welding of pipe steel. It has good S and P removal and antirust ability.This flux shows good fabrication and weldability. It has good slag detachability even for the narrow gap and deep groove welding. The welding metal has good toughness and high anti-coldness and anti-cracking quality. By matching with different wire, it can be used for the welding of high strength steel.

HJ350 is a kind of Mdium-MnO medium-SiO2 medium-CaF2 fused flux, It is a kind of granule brown to light yellow colour, about 2.5-0.45mm(8-40 mesh) and 1.5-0.18mm(14-80 mesh) in grain size. When used on AC or DC(+). it has good weldability.
In combination with H08MnA, H10Mn2, Mn082Mo welding wire this flux is suitable for welding low alloy high-strength steel, such as 16Mn, 15MnVN in fabrication of ships, boilers and pressure vessels etc. For fine granule flux, it can be used for the submerged-arc welding of thin plate with thin wire.
